Our Mission
Pushing Up is a grass-roots theatre company bringing contemporary Queensland work to regional Queensland audiences.
This state produces a plethora of exceptional plays, the performance of which is largely confined to the Brisbane area. We want to change that. With the maturation of the Empire Theatre into a large performing arts centre

This state produces a plethora of exceptional plays, the performance of which is largely confined to the Brisbane area. We want to change that. With the maturation of the Empire Theatre into a large performing arts centre we are using the opportunity to extend the reach and lifespan of Queensland dramatic texts.

Meet the Director
Mister Robert Darvall has over four decades of experience in professional theatre including two years as Head of Production at the prestigious, La Boite Theatre.
Robert has multiple degrees in theatre including:
Diploma of Fine Arts in Stage Management
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre
Masters of Theatre in Directing.
He has also taught tech

The Sea and Little Fishes
Based on Sir Terry Pratchett's short story of the same name, The Sea and Little Fishes is a gently satirical comedy , that revolves around a group of strong matriarchs competing with each other while pretending not to. This local adaption by award winning author, Michael Darvall, retains the subtle wit and artistry of Pratchett's work while lending it an authentic Queensland flavour.

Harriers was a highly successful show. The play was performed at Toowoomba's Philharmonic Hall bringing a key piece of modern theatre to the Toowoomba Region.

Sayn is an Australian doctor in a war zone. She has been rescued from an explosion by a young soldier, Bir. Bir is seventeen and has been a child soldier since he was eleven. He has saved her because she is a doctor, but if he finds she is an American spy, he’ll have no hesitation in blowing her head off.
Harriers explores Australia’s involvement in other countries, training militia and providing arms and then abandoning the rebel forces we’ve trained, leaving them to be decimated to decimate others.
The Knowing of Mary Poppins
The Knowing of Mary Poppins is a distinctly Queensland production that has played in Brisbane and was successfully brought to the Empire Theatre.
Written by M. Dorney, L. Mercer, M. Brown Ash, S. Callaghan & C. Schmidt
A different take on the story of P.L. Travers, author of Mary Poppins, following her life from her youth in Allora on the Darling Downs, to her time in Sydney and overseas. A subtle and evocative exploration of a deeply complex person through a blend of humour and critical reflection.
